Mastermind Groups

picjumbo.com_HNCK2146If you do not already have one, I highly recommend starting a Mastermind Group for you and your colleagues.

What is it? A group of people with similar careers meet on a scheduled basis to discuss their progress, growth, share resources, and assist one another.

What’s the benefit? Everyone is better at different aspects of the business, and can learn from one another, prop each other up. Many kinds of businesses work in isolation (coaching, private practice mental health and medical professionals) and it gives a sense of community.

How do I start one? Call up a few colleagues (2 others minimum, probably not more than 10) and ask if they are interested. Set a time and date to meet for an hour. Schedule it going forward as an appointment that you will all attend. Be aware of time zones. You can hold these groups by video or phone, so there is no limit on who can be included.

How can I structure it so everyone finds benefit? Keep it relatively small so everyone has time to discuss what they need, or arrange it so that half the group speaks at a given meeting. I find a smaller group is best. You an also schedule longer meetings for larger groups. Ask your participants to preface what they are sharing with one of the following CLAW needs:

Cheerleading – I’m sharing information that is exciting and I want you to be excited with me and support me.

Listening – I just need to say this and be heard.

Accountability – I am working on something and want you to follow up with me in a specific way.

Wise Counsel – I need advice on a specific item.

Good luck! If I can be of any service in setting it up, consult with me.
